Universities

Links between the University of the Western Cape and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin date back to the time of the South African transition in the early 1990s. Prof Werle of Humboldt-Universität has since repeatedly taught at the Law Faculty of UWC as a DAAD lecturer and as an extraordinary professor. Prof Fernandez has visited Humboldt-Universität as a DAAD research fellow. German students have regularly enrolled for LLM studies at the University of the Western Cape. Staff of both faculties have jointly advised a number of doctoral students who wrote their theses on topics relating to the transitional process in South Africa.
