After an excellent lecture by Prof Gueldich and a fruitful discussion (in which we were able to set new participant records), we are glad to announce the third lunch lecture of the African-German Research Network for 2024. This time together with the Humboldt International Criminal Law Discussion Group.
On 11 December 2024 (18:00 CET s.t.), Brenda Nanyunja will speak on „Kwoyelo on Trial in Uganda“. She will present the case of Thomas Kwoyelo at the International Crimes Division of the High Court of Uganda and reflect on the domestic application of international (criminal) law in Uganda.
Brenda Nanyunja is an alumna of the Network as she graduated in 2015 with an LL.M. in Transnational Criminal Justice. She is currently an International Justice in Africa Fellow at Amnesty International, where she researches and advocates on related issues with a focus on the question of double standards. Previously, she worked as a researcher at the International Crimes Division of the High Court of Uganda on the Thomas Kwoyelo case in its preliminary stage. In addition to her LL.M. from the University of Western Cape (South Africa), Brenda holds an LLB from Makerere University (Uganda) and a Master of Advanced Studies in Transitional Justice, Human Rights and the Rule of Law from the Geneva Academy (Switzerland).
