Kick-off Event | Dr Windell Nortje – Dr Charity Wibabara and Professor Hannah Woolaver | 23 February 2024
We cordially invite you to the first session of our Network in 2024. It will take place online on Friday, 23 February 2024 (12:00 CET).
Dr Windell Nortje will speak on the “Prosecution of Apartheid in South Africa”. His article “Prosecuting the Crime against Humanity of Apartheid: The Historic First Indictment in South Africa and the Application of Customary International Law”, which he jointly wrote with Professor Gerhard Kemp, was published in the Journal of International Criminal Justice in May 2023 (Volume 21, Issue 2, pages 405-430). Professor Hannah Woolaver and Dr Charity Wibabara will contribute with a comment.
Windell Nortje is a Senior Lecturer Department of Criminal Justice and Procedure at Faculty of Law at the UWC. He is an alumnus of the Centre as he graduated in 2009 with an LL.M. and completed his PhD 2017, both as part of the cooperation between the Humboldt-University of Berlin and the University of the Western Cape. In the meantime, he has also worked for the Centre.
Charity Wibabara is a Prosecutor at the Rwanda National Public Prosecution Authority. She obtained an LL.M. in 2009 and a PhD in 2013, both as part of the cooperation between the Humboldt-University of Berlin and the University of the Western Cape and is an alumna of the Centre.
Hannah Woolaver is an Associate Professor in Public International Law at the Law Faculty of the University of Cape Town and a Member of the Advisory Board of the Network. She has earned her LLB from Durham University, BCL at the University of Oxford, and PhD at the University of Cambridge.
