Launch of the African Criminal Law Series | Ethiopian, Kenyan, and Tanzanian Criminal Law
Years of hard work have paid off: We are pleased to celebrate the launch of the African Criminal Law Series, edited by Professor Jeßberger and Professor Werle. The series publishes peer-reviewed monographs open access and aims to create a hub for criminal law in Africa.
Three volumes on Ethiopian, Kenyan, and Tanzanian Criminal Law have been published and are available on the edoc-Server – the Open Access publication server of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. A big congratulations to the authors: Dr. Marshet Tadesse Tessema and Markos Debebe, Dr. Juliet O. Amenge and Dr. Evelyne O. Asaala as well as Dr. Nicksoni Filbert and Dr. Jaba Shadrack!
The textbooks were reviewed by a panel of distinguished scholars, including members of the Network’s Advisory Board. Each volume is a textbook on the criminal justice system of an African state. They present the general principles and specific offences of the national criminal law based on a systematic approach and consistent methodology. Chapters on the sources and history as well as the international dimension of criminal law are included. Current case law is comprehensively incorporated and explained. Definitions, examples, and discussion questions render each of the books a pioneering contribution and essential reading for students, scholars of criminal law, as well as practitioners working in the field. While style and format were adjusted to increase readability, local traditions (e.g. regarding literature and case law references) were maintained.
